Here is a template for an introductory letter to your child’s teacher. Keep this email short, positive, and collaborative. It sets the stage for open communication, without overwhelming the teacher.
Dear (Teacher’s Name),
I hope this message finds you well and that you’re off to a great start to the school year! I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and share a little bit about my child, [Child’s Name], as we begin this journey together.
Here are a few things that help [Child’s Name] thrive in school:
Strengths: (List 2–3 things your child enjoys or does well, for example, “Loves reading about animals, has a great sense of humor.”)
Supports that make a difference: (List 1–2 strategies, for example: “Breaks between tasks really help,” “Clear directions go a long way.”)
Challenges to be mindful of and possible solutions: (Briefly mention, for example., “Transitions can sometimes be tough, but cues or routines help.”)
Our goal this year is to work together as a team, so that [Child’s Name] feels supported, confident, and engaged in learning. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if there’s anything I can do to help or provide from home.
Thank you for all you do for your students. I know how much heart and effort goes into teaching, and I truly appreciate it. I’m looking forward to collaborating with you this year!
Warmly,
(Your Name)
